Shukra Pharmaceuticals has secured 10 acres in Greater Noida’s Medical Device Park to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for surgical robotics and cancer therapy technology. This ₹600 crore investment marks a significant milestone in positioning the Yamuna Expressway region as a premier hub for medical innovation.
The landscape of the Yamuna Expressway region continues to evolve rapidly, transforming from a promising industrial corridor into a tangible hub for high-tech manufacturing. In a significant development for the region's economic portfolio, Shukra Pharmaceuticals has officially secured land to establish a cutting-edge medical device facility. This move not only reinforces investor confidence in Greater Noida but also signals a major leap forward for indigenous medical technology in India.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Shukra Pharmaceuticals for the allotment of a 10-acre industrial plot. The site is strategically located within the dedicated Medical Device Park in Sector 28, Greater Noida. This specific sector is fast becoming a focal point for the medical technology industry, designed to house non-polluting, high-tech manufacturing units that require specialized infrastructure.
With a planned investment of approximately ₹600 crore, this project is one of the more substantial commitments the region has seen recently. The allocation underscores the success of the Uttar Pradesh government’s aggressive push to attract high-value investments through schemes like "Invest UP" and the development of specialized industrial clusters.
What sets this facility apart is not just the capital investment, but the nature of the technology being brought to Indian soil. The new plant is slated to focus on two critical and futuristic areas of healthcare: surgical robotics and advanced cancer treatment.
The facility will manufacture the Veer Surgical Robot, an AI-enabled platform designed to assist surgeons with high precision. Robotics in surgery is a rapidly growing field that allows for minimally invasive procedures, faster recovery times, and consistent clinical outcomes. By manufacturing these complex systems domestically, the project aims to democratize access to robotic surgery, which has traditionally been cost-prohibitive for many Indian hospitals due to reliance on imported equipment.
In addition to robotics, the plant will produce technology for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). This is a next-generation radiotherapy typically used for treating complex and difficult-to-reach tumors. BNCT is currently a niche technology globally, and establishing a manufacturing base for it in Greater Noida places India on the map for advanced oncological infrastructure.
Beyond the headline-grabbing robotics, the facility is planned as a comprehensive manufacturing hub. The production lines will extend to a wide array of critical medical equipment that India largely imports today.
The product mix is expected to include radiology and imaging systems such as CT scanners, MRI machines, and ultrasound devices. There is also a strong focus on cardiac care, with plans to manufacture heart valves, stents, and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs). By covering such a broad spectrum—from critical care equipment like ventilators to diagnostic tools—the facility will play a vital role in strengthening the domestic supply chain.
To ensure the technology meets global standards, Shukra Pharmaceuticals has entered into a strategic partnership with Borns Medical Robotics Inc., a US-based innovator in the field. This collaboration is a classic example of technology transfer that benefits the local ecosystem. While the intellectual property and design expertise come from the partnership, the manufacturing, assembly, and distribution will be rooted in Greater Noida.
This approach aligns perfectly with the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) vision. Instead of merely acting as a marketplace for foreign goods, India is building the capacity to produce them. For the end patient, this localization promises to bring down the cost of high-end medical procedures significantly.
The choice of Greater Noida for this massive facility is no coincidence. Sector 28 offers logistical advantages that are hard to match elsewhere in North India.
For the local economy, the ripple effects of this investment will be substantial. The project is estimated to generate around 900 direct jobs. These are likely to be high-quality roles requiring skilled technicians, engineers, and R&D professionals, contributing to the upskilling of the local workforce.
Furthermore, the facility is expected to create approximately 2,000 indirect employment opportunities. These will span across logistics, facility management, raw material supply, and other support services, further boosting the socio-economic status of the Greater Noida region.
The completion of the Medical Device Park and the operationalization of units like Shukra Pharmaceuticals’ facility are targeted for the near future, with construction expected to move at a fast pace. As more companies secure land and commence construction, Sector 28 is poised to transform into a bustling ecosystem of innovation.
